It is now official. With effect from 29 December 2008, electronic passports are also being issued in Taiwan. This makes Taiwan the 60th country to introduce electronic passports.

The invitation to tender for the establishment of an “ePassport production  line” was sent out back in 2006. ruhlamat won the tender with the presentation of its passport machine solution. The decisive factor was that ruhlamat was and is in a position to develop, produce and configure a complete solution for the production of ePassports.

Following the installation and successful acceptance of the machines in May 2008, the Taiwan government was thus in a position to start full production of the electronic ePassports. Around 8 million Taiwanese will receive their new travel documents over the coming weeks and months, thus benefiting from the new security features.
